- News
- MagIC CryoTiger coupling bracework machined, plated, is in March 18 airshipment. Custom-placed holes need to be cut at LCO.
- Checked with Collison: No Ultra 10 available at OCIW for use as MagIC spare
- New server computer was sent to LCO last month
- All IMACS mask flat file cabinets are in March boat shipment
- Frank's grates arrived damaged in Gardena, CA so they won't go on this boat
- Remaining IMACS masks are in March boat shipment
- ADC lenses at Brashear (testing OK so far); approx ship date to LCO is early April
- ADC installation planned for May Baade engineering run
- New rotator amp/PS sets to be sent in April
2. Notes
2.1. Added agenda items (MIKE CCD and IMACS disperser)
- MIKE CCD
- The MIKE blue channel detector failed last night. Ian thinks it's likely that something's wrong with the preamp board and suggests that the CCD output be switched to the other input on that board. But first, check that the 10 volts is OK on the board. The dewar is warming and David Osip will investigate tomorrow. Pamela Wyatt will be taking a spare board with her to arrive in La Serena on Sunda.
- IMACS disperser server
- Alan Dressler and Tyson Hare discussed the problem with LCO staff, David Osip in particular. Tyson had an engineering log that showed the server failed to unclamp (as Marla reported). Tyson will investigate the problem(s) during his trip to LCO in early April.
David Osip will request from Christoph Birk that a status window showing sensor states be put up on the observer's screen.
2.2. Task list review
- Mirror actuator air leaks
- Frank reports he's waiting on Dow Corning RTV; AU will investigate.
- Guider cameras
- Frank reports that yesterday's grounding of a Racal switch helped reduce noise; we'll wait and see.
- Iodine cell actuator
- This is important for Paul Butler runs. AU will try to accelerate the work.
- Connect shop air to instruments
- In progress.
- M2 M3 baffles at MagIC
- Frank says they found a set of baffles that were used in the IMACS port. IMACS doesn't need them, so they will try to put them on MagIC.
- IMACS commissioning
- In progress. Schedule for repairing the F/2 camera lenses was discussed earlier.
- Mirror support PC boards (new SOML)
- Frank reports having trouble getting a reply from SOML; he'll keep trying.
- Guider mechanicals
- AU reports little progress in Pasadena, except Charlie is investigating lead screws with 5X shorter pitch, which will improve resolution and increase lifting forces.
- M3 turrent on Clay
- AU reports that detent parts are on the air shipment and should arrive in a couple of days. They will be installed during the shortened April engineering run.
EDS tools: AU reports that he received the documents from Silvia and will start working on this.
- ADC
- AU reports that it's at Brashear being tested and the comments are "better than expected." It'll leave Brashear during the first week or so of April and arrive at LCO before mid-April.
- Replace Glentek amps on rotators
- New AMC amplifiers have been tested on the LDSS port and have yet to show problems. Frank suggests sending all parts for the other three test sets to LCO for installation by the staff there; AU will make that happen.
2.3. New instruments
These (and more) will need support agreements reviewed soon. David Osip commented that existing instruments like PANIC and MIKE also need these agreements.
- MagE support agreement needs review and an OK
- LDSS upgrade plans
- IMACS Echellette
- MMTF
- SAO Clay inspection in August? Frank suggest yes, add a day to the aluminizing run for SAO inspections. Update: Ian will be modifying the schedule.
2.4. Instrument lift proposal from SAO
Frank has studied it and says it looks OK.
2.5. Job ad for new telescope engineer/scientist
AU will send it to LCO for comment.
