Report
Slit Mask Server
- Upon instection the ecoder head and slide rail were found loose. The threaded hole show signs of stripping. Loctite and washers were added to the fastening scheme.
- Software was updated with new encoder limit values (due to the loose components)
- Hardstop logic was not responding correctly. The motion didn't not stop when the forward limit was depressed during testing. This problem requires further investigation.
Shack-Hartmann Guide Camera
- Added a screw to the assembly mounting plate. Before the screw was added it was possible to tilt one corner of the assembly off its mounting surface slightly. This movement seems unlikely under normal conditions as there is no tendency for a strong force to occur in the manner needed to cause such a motion.
- Measurement of barrel motion, both axial and tangential to motion were found to be within known design parameters, with all measurement less than 25 um.
- A scratch was found on the Renishaw tape, at approximately 11.3 degrees. There haven't been any obvious operation problems associated with this issue, however the tape should be replaced.
Grating Tilt Mechanism
- A faulty proximity sensor was discovered and replaced by the mountain staff.
- A supply of spares was delivered and are in the parts cabinet.
- All other GTM work was postponed due to time constraints.
Miscellaneous Maintenance and Other Work
- Althought the instrument rollers appear to be working as expected, measurements show the instrument has moved axial more than design parameters. Looking at the mechanical connection to the NIR it was suggested that perhaps the set screws in the tripod spring plunger were not properly torqued, allowing the instrument to slide. Cup pin set screws will replace the lock screws currently in use. Further investigation provided no obvious reasons for axial motion.
- The instrument was repositioned so that the disk are centered on the rollers and reconnected to the NIR.
- This issue will be under continued monitoring.
