Testing at SBS (Jan 23-31, 2006)

Ben Weiner reports that his tests in the lab here show that the etalon works with the new controller and he's confident that it maintains parallelism down to narrow spacings (too narrow to see rings). He did the latter test by moving the CCD camera around the beam and demonstrating that tilting the plates moved the central wavelengths.

Things to do:

  1. Build and test serial link cable to the controller
  2. Build covers for the etalon that can be installed while it's in the instrument.
  3. Build masks so that individual quadrants can be measured to test for parallelism.
  4. Install a hydrogen lamp at the telescope or on (within) IMACS.
  5. Shield the long length of cable.
  6. Test the shielded cable.
  7. Schedule pre-ship review.
